A.V Wayans, is a NYC native artist and creative. currently based out of Brooklyn her love for the arts was cultivated through her education at NYC public schools in Harlem and Manhattan. Attending The New school Eugene Lang and SUNY purchase for theater and Anthropology A.V has been using her degree to communicate the stories of her subjects through illustration in order illuminate their narratives. A.V’s visual art has a focus on contour line drawing while her written work uses anthropological practices of writing, and interview styled perspective to convey the stories of the everyday persons experiences. She has spent the last six years as an art teacher in the Bronx and Queens teaching in school and at center-based programing, through organizations such as Community Word Project and Dream Yard and on staff at Valance College Prep. It is through her love of God that A.V creates her art work, after all Jesus himself was a master storyteller. Currently A.V’s work highlights individuals and groups separated by their socio economic class, gender, race, faith and health circumstance. Her mission is to engage humans with one another through storytelling to create common ground and space for understanding one another’s experiences.
